We were looking for quiet, relaxing, spacious, private accomodation for two families and we found it here. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was amazing. We were able to find activities during the day and return to the villa for rest and relaxation. It is a beach front villa, but it is not a surf beach as it is protected by a reef. This was a blessing in disguise travelling with kids from 1 up to age 12, as the kids were able to be near shallow, calm water collecting shells, playing in the sandbars and in the kayak etc without parents having to worry about high tide and crashing waves. This was the most relaxing holiday we've had with our family, the number of books read is testament to that. Can highly recommend!

In 2016 we spent 10 days in BTC with family celebrating a parent's 80th birthday. I wrote then that we had a PERFECT holiday, so my family and I were curious if this perfection could be replicated a year later. The short answer is YES. This time was shorter - 8 nights - and the staff at the villa were not the same as the previous year. The excellence began with the booking roughly 4-5 months earlier directly with Zuwainah, and ended when we made our "wais" and sadly bid farewell to Khun Thoey and his wife Khun Jai - the 2 onsite staff. The couple were simply fantastic, offering a perfect 10 service that combined both attentiveness to detail and discreteness. Everything one wished for was magically provided without any "in-your-face" mentality - one never really feels they are around. This is critical when one spends so much time in the villa, lounging around the lovely central pool and eating the most delicious Thai meals in the overlooking dining room. For the meals we once again used the young and very talented Khun Ten, who did not disappoint by serving a seafood banquet of lobster, crab, giant prawns and more. We also had a couple of meals in two of Koh Samui's most exclusive 5-star hotels, The Conrad and the Six Senses, and all of us were unanimous that the quality of food and the service in our villa was far superior to the supposed superior hotels. And, of course, for a fraction of the price of what one pays in these over-hyped establishments. There is really not much to add to my review of last year: BTC is simply a paradise villa, located away from the more frenetic parts of Koh Samui, all alone at the end of a dirt road on a beach. The only minus point is that the water is too shallow with too many rocks to afford any swimming. The walks in the tidal shallows are lovely, but one cannot swim. For that, though, there is the option to spend a half day on Koh Tan or Koh Madsam, which are easy 30 minute journeys (10 by car to the pier and 20 in a boat), which offer pristine waters for swimming, snorkelling and beach bumming. Within 10-15 minutes drive from BTC are plenty of eating options - all very reasonable and of extremely good quality - so the value is superb. Our favourite for great Thai food is Koh Tan View. For decent European and Thai food, but offering a picture-perfect setting, I highly recommend French Kiss. Zuwainah and her team offer a truly calming, magical, serene experience that delights the senses and leaves everyone (in our case from 8yrs to 59yrs and 5 nationalities) in a very happy state of mind.

One can only describe the 10 days we just enjoyed at Villa Baan Tawan Chai (BTC) as PERFECT. "We" was a large group that included 8 family and 2 very close friends: a largish, unwieldy group that is generally difficult to accommodate and make everyone happy. But BTC was, well, perfect. The layout is perfect, with 4 bedrooms (each with ensuite indoor and outdoor bathrooms) a large kitchen plus dining area and a good size living room sprawled around a central pool area. Directly in front of the pool area is a large lawn with a small gate that leads to a basically private beach and the sea. 2 of the bedrooms are spacious, whilst 2 leave little room around the queen-size beds. 2 of the rooms can easily accommodate another bed (folding or chaise longue), as can the living room, thereby being able to fit in a total of 11-12 if one really wants to. But, ideally, BTC is for 8, that very comfortably can enjoy a superb experience. The location of BTC is also perfect, at least for those travellers that are looking for peace and quiet, away from the hustle and bustle of Chaweng or Lamai beaches. BTC is on the southern Samui coast, which, along with the nearby western coast, remains the unspoilt part of the island. The villa is at the end of a dirt road that ends at the sea, and with (as yet) no neighbours, it is truly quiet in the villa. At night the only lights one sees are of the fishing boats bobbing beyond the distant reef. The sounds are only of nocturnal animals - no music blasting from speakers. The rooms are very well appointed with comfortable furniture. The place is looked after and cleaned daily by a live-in couple, Khun Luk and Khun Rawng, and they are a huge part as to why our stay was so special: their attention to detail in all aspects of service, their kindness and compassionate demeanour, added to the peacefulness of the place. One can also hire a chef for a nominal fee to cook, which we did a couple of times. For my father's 80th birthday we hired Khun Ten, a young up and coming Thai master chef. He cooked a delicious multi-course Thai meal that included lobster, crab and prawns, and, after 30 years of being a very regular visitor to Thailand, this was one of the 3 best Thai meals I have ever had. As we are all regular Thai visitors or long-time residents, we also enjoy going to the local markets to bring back prepared food, and there was no shortage of great cooked food to be found. The best market was probably the one next to the Tesco supermarket in Lamai. We also explored restaurants in the beach area in Tongkhut, all of which are rustic and simple, but generally serve good food. French Kiss Thanod is one example of a picture-perfect restaurant facing Koh Tan and Koh Madsum, two beautiful islands a 15-minute boat ride away with super snorkelling and swimming. 3 minutes from BTC is an usual restaurant, the Magic Alalmbic Distillery, which distils its own rum and serves very authentic and tasty French food. There is therefore tons to do and see within 20 minutes of the villa. But back to BTC. Each time, after an excursion, we drove back, the kids couldn't wait to be embraced by the lush gardens and dive into the pool. The only slight drawback to BTC is that that entire Laem Set coast does not really offer any swimming beaches, as the water never really gets deep enough. It did during high tide, however, allow my energetic 11-year son to spend a couple of hours kayaking in the bay (the kayak is part of the BTC offering). The 10 days seemed to melt away in to blissful hours of pure relaxation and enjoyment and contentment. Every single one of us, from ages 7 to 80, said this was one of the best holidays ever.

A very nice and quiet and located villa, where the staff Lon and Lak surrounded us with great care. We enjoyed the good cooking from Da and the nice walks with "Hiking on Samui"

Baan Tawan Chai, what a wonderful villa and place to stay. We had a marvelous time here! Thanks to the staff, they are so friendly and helpful. They did a wonderful job. Perfect breakfast, very clean rooms and grounds and such a beautiful garden. And of course the lovely towel animals. Every day another one. It couldn't be better. We enjoyed the large swimming pool and private beach and Tawan the dog joining us on our morning walks along the beach. Can recommend the short hike along the beach to the monk cave in the rocks on the left hand side as well as hiking with Femke in the mountains of Samui. Explore the beaches around the villa by car and you find lovely little beach bars and restaurants or drive the mountain road from Lamai to Maenam to enjoy some stunning views. We had a wonderful holiday. Many, many thanks!
