Isle of Wight Ferry crossings operate for passengers into 5 different Island towns, with three of these services also carrying vehicles. The main ferry links to the Island operate from Portsmouth, Southampton and Lymington. Wightlink sails between the mainland and the Isle of Wight on three routes: Wightlink car ferries cross between Lymington and Yarmouth and from Portsmouth to Fishbourne and take roughly 40 minutes, while foot passengers can use the Wightlink catamaran and zip over to Ryde from Portsmouth in approximately 25 minutes. From Ryde Pier Head you can then board the Isle of Wight train right through to Shanklin Station. The Red Funnel car ferry sails between Southampton and East Cowes in roughly 0ne hour, the ferries on this route carry passengers and any vehicle or towed trailer that will fit under a motorway bridge. If travelling on foot Red Funnel operate the Hi-Speed Red Jet between Southampton and West Cowes, this also takes 25 minutes. Hovertravel provides the fastest Isle of Wight ferry service across the Solent and is the world's longest running and only commercial hovercraft operator in Europe. Only carrying foot passengers this ferry service takes you directly to the shore at Southsea or Ryde in just 10 minutes. It is a good idea to book your ferry in advance as they can get booked.
