“A stylish apartment in a lovely setting.”

Reviewed 4 Sep 2013

A well finished, comfortable apartment with everything you could need. Useful outside terrace space attached to the apartment and two peaceful public pool areas. The apartment was easily accessible from the ferry, with well priced, good restaurants and supermarkets 10 mins walk away from the complex. Mario, the owner was extremely helpful giving lots of helpful information about the area. Lots of opportunities for scuba diving for the beginner or experienced diver. One of the most relaxing holidays we have ever had.

Very peaceful holiday in the perfect setting with stunning views and beautiful pools. Apartment was lovely ( not the best bed and a shortage of bed linen ) however it wouldn't stop us from returning the best holiday we have had. Anna met us off the ferry and the communication from Mario pre visit was excellent.

Respuesta del gerente We are pleased that you have enjoyed your stay in Fort Chambray. Regarding the bed, we are actively seeking to replace the existing fully orthopaedic mattress, which some people may find a little bit rigid, with a semi-orthpaedic one. We look forward to be able to host you again in Fort Chambray in the future.

“Unforgettable for all the right reasons...”

From the first moment we contacted Mario, we felt instantly at ease and confident that a stay in his apartment would be everything we could hope for. I was looking for an apartment which would suit myself, my husband, my 3 year old daughter and 76 year old mother and what we found well exceeded expectations. It was beautifully furnished with two stunning bedrooms, a good sized kitchen with lovely open plan living area plus a luxury bathroom. We also had wifi and full air conditioning as standard, which was essential given the very hot summer. The bonus factor with Mario's apartment was the wrap around outside patio and garden area which came complete with bar-b-cue and sun-loungers. As for the resort, words can't possibly describe how stunning this is. Location wise, Fort Chambray is 10 minutes walk (up hill) from Mgarr Harbour port and is a restored fort currently undergoing further redevelopment after the initial phased building work. This is NOT a building site! Fort Chambray as it stands is the most incredible development with several swimming pools all accessible from any apartment within a minute or two. The main pool itself is, I believe, the largest in Gozo and has the most beautiful setting. Fort Chambray overlooks Comino with Malta in the distance and the view is one you can never get tired of gazing at. A wedding party came to have their photographs taken so that should speak for itself. Mario was a fabulous host and after meeting us at the airport, he brought us to the apartment which was stocked with food and water and furnished with books and a useful information/welcome pack. Once we were settled, we were able to explore our surroundings and we found this quite easy, even though we didn't have a car. People with mobility issues may find Fort Chambray slightly out of the way but we managed very well, walking to the local village (Ghajnsielem) most evenings and even during the high heat of the day though this is not recommended to those wiser than ourselves! Most of the apartments at Fort Chambray are privately owned and at times we had the pool to ourselves. This really felt like it was 'our' holiday - very quiet and leisurely. We took a bus tour round the island during our stay and can honestly say that it confirmed the wisdom of our choice in Fort Chambray. At night, we usually ate at one of Ghajnsielems lively restaurants near the stunning church. The whole town came alive as locals aged it seemed, from one to one hundred, dined, talked or danced the night away. All in all, it was a fabulous holiday and all 3 generations of our family enjoyed the experience so much that we truly regretted having to leave and won't even consider staying anywhere else, should we return in the future.

“Beautiful island, impressive and stylish place”

Mario's apartment in Fort Chambray was great, and the Fort Chambray complex is very stylish, although it was very quiet when we were there during October. We imagine in the summer season, it would be a fair bit busier. Mario and Anna were very helpful, with Anna meeting us personally at the Gozo ferry and making sure we were fully settled in. You're not far from anywhere in Gozo so it's easy to explore the island, and even trips over to the main Malta island don't take long. Very nice, relaxing holiday.

“Absolutely perfect - Made our holiday!”

I stayed at the apartment with my husband and our 4 children (15, 13, 3 and 1). First off, Mario and his wife Anna were incredibly friendly and accomodating even having a couple of bottles of wine waiting for us on arrival. The accomodation suited our family perfectly with Wifi for the teens and cable tv with cartoon channels for the babies. There is air conditioning in every room, which was already up and running when we arrived, which we were grateful for! The air conditioning is NOT pay per use as most properties I've looked at on Gozo but included in the cost of the rental. There is a gas BBQ in the back garden, which we used a couple of times and a washing machine, which came in very handy with our little two. The Fort complex itself is beautiful. It has been built very sympathetically and although there were workmen about we never heard anything going on, the place is almost as quiet as the walled city itself. There are two pools and both were beautiful and never busy. One afternoon we swam in the main pool complex for over 2 hours and never saw another person. The pools aren't heated but by 11/12 it was warm anyway. The complex is also secure with a Watchman on duty right through the night. I lived in Gozo for several years and have been visiting with my family every year since the mid-nineties. We don't go for sight seeing but to meet with friends and family so this complex was perfect for us as it kept everyone occupied during the day. We rented a car directly from Malta Airport and we did use it. There is a comprehensive supermarket with a deli counter etc just a few minutes up the road towards Ghajnsielem and we walked into Ghajnsielem one evening and managed it within about 5 minutes. The food van down at Mgarr does a lovely burger and chips. There are a couple of booths selling baked gooods near the main car park in Rabat. Sphinx do lovely Pastizzi and Pizza and then next door, Tal-Lajku does the most fantastic cakes! All in all the accomodation made our holiday as it made our days beyond comfortable. It was equipped with everything you could need and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone.

A slice of luxury on holiday..................... We love Gozo and it was our first time to stay in Fort Chombray....and wont be the last. Our group consisted of 3 adults and a 22 month old, from the minute I made the first enquiry about this accommodation everything was made easy for us by Mario and Anna. The apartment is modern and very comfortable and its like staying in a hotel but with the bonus of having the space within the apartment and outside ...we enjoyed cooking and using the BBQ, the sittig room is very relaxing and the bedroom rooms are very nicely decorated and have everything you need especially air con, the bathroom is very modern and the shower is great!, the pool is out of this world with an amazing view over to Malta and Comino.... I can't say enough good things about this place its close to the harbour, there is a supermarket down the road and nice restaurants, under ground car parking .....I wish Mario and his family lots of success with this apartment...We loved every minuste of our stay and can't wait to go back next year!! This really is a Gem of a place!!

Well equipped and in a gorgeous location we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Fort Chambray The apartment was very comfortable and the complex is gorgeous. The pool area is excellent and suitable for couples or families with young children. It was very peaceful and relaxing. The nearest eateries are a 10 minute walk away but we thoroughly enjoyed using the barbeque because the supermarkets are so well stocked with great fish and meat options available. We definitely plan to visit Gozo again and would love to stay at Fort Chambray. A car is required for shopping and getting arlound as there are no facilities on site. Many of the apartments, duplexes and villas are used by their owners. It is safe, well cared for and does not have a 'resort' feel to it.
